Up-To-Date Thread: Rick Hahn’s To-Do List And Rebuild Updates

Since this rebuilding process will likely take at least a few years, I’ve decided to keep an ongoing thread giving updates on everything that happens.  This thread will be known as GM Rick Hahn’s “to-do list,” and I’ll mark down all trades, signings, roster moves, etc that he makes throughout this rebuild.

(This thread was originally posted on May 19th)

Hahn’s To-Do List:

  • Trade Chris Sale for top prospects
  • Trade Adam Eaton for top prospects
  • Trade Jose Quintana for top prospects
  • Trade Todd Frazier to a team in need (Mets, Giants)
  • Trade Derek Holland if a need for him arises
  • Trade James Shields if a need for him arises
  • Trade Miguel Gonzalez if a need for him arises
  • Trade David Robertson to a team in need (Nationals, Mets)
  • Trade Nate Jones to a team in need (Nationals, Mets, Dodgers)
  • Sign top Cuban prospect Luis Robert
  • Draft a legit bat or two in the June draft (Adam Haseley and Brent Rooker preferably)

Jose Quintana

The Boston Red Sox have reportedly started scouting Jose Quintana, and scouts have been watching him as early as his last home start against San Diego.  It makes absolute sense as to why Boston would be interested in Quintana, although they may be hesitant on the package they might send back.  Their pitching staff has been riddled with injuries (Steven Wright out with season-ending knee surgery and David Price fighting with elbow issues) and some of their top performers from last year like Rick Porcello have not been pitching like themselves.

Todd Frazier

Like Jose Quintana, the Red Sox have also been scouting Todd Frazier.  Ever since they traded Travis Shaw to the Brewers, they’ve had extreme inconsistency at the hot corner.  Pablo Sandoval has been very unproductive and has gotten hurt often this year.  Josh Rutledge and Deven Marrero haven’t been any better, as neither of them has been hitting well at all lately.  Although Frazier isn’t much of an upgrade batting wise, his power should fit in well with the rest of the Boston lineup.

Luis Robert

IT HAPPENED!!!

LUIS ROBERT IS OFFICIALLY A WHITE SOX AND THE REBUILD HAS NEVER LOOKED BETTER!

Anyway, the deal was announced by Ken Rosenthal, and it’s expected to be worth $25+ million. Wow… things on the South Side look A LOT brighter now!

Luis Robert

With less than 24 hours remaining before top Cuban prospect Luis Robert is eligible to sign with a team, the Sox and Cardinals are the main two front-runners.  Most sources believe that Robert will sign with the White Sox, but it’s likely all up to which team gives the higher offer to Robert.  Jeff Passan reported that Robert has already decided which team he’ll sign with, however, a deal will most likely not be announced until at least some time during Saturday the 20th.

Closer Market

The Washington Nationals blew yet another game with reliever Enny Romero giving up the go-ahead run from off double by Nick Markakis, followed by a 2 run homer from Kurt Suzuki.  The Nats now have the worst ERA of all NL bullpens and 8 of the Nats’ 16 losses have come from the bullpen.  This only furthers their need for a closer.  They have already been involved in conversations with the White Sox, Rays, and Giants, per Jon Heyman.  Hopefully, with all of the scouts that they seem to be sending to Sox games, the Nats give the Sox the prospects they want for Robertson.  Without a legit closer, the Nats just don’t do as well as they could.
